75 Hard

So I’ve had a less than stellar month in trying to get healthy and fit. But it’s ok. It was the holidays so I ate more (and more junk) than normal. I was fighting ear infections so I just couldn’t do as much as normal. This is ok.

I’ve decided to use the 75 hard challenge to get back on track. And I know this upsets some of you “bend the rules” but I will be modifying one.

Start date: 12/27/2020

Rules:

Follow a diet ✔️ Keto

Work out twice a day at least 45 min. One has to be outside. — this is where I’m making one modification. There are two issues. One, it’s rainy season and I’m not committing to 45 min walks in torrential downpour. Twos, safety. I just don’t live in an area where I feel comfortable walking outside alone.

Drink four liters of water a day ✔️ I have my one liter water bottle

Read 10 pages of non fiction a day ✔️no problem. Won’t be self help books but I already have a strong reading habit

Take a progress picture each day ✔️ I actually found a app to track and it will help me remember to do this.

Wish me luck!

Had a less than great week

I’ve really been bad at this whole Keto thing the last week or so. I lost a few pounds and then gained them back. I ate candy. For a few days. It’s ok though. I didn’t work out. It was a combo of not feeling so great from allergies and just being tired. I can improve upon this little hiccup.

Exercise part 2- Ring Fit Adventure

Today I join the 100 club on Ring Fit Adventure!

So what have I found in 100 levels? Ring Fit Adventure may not be the most intense workout in the world but it gives a surprisingly good one. This is all going to be low intensity exercise. No weights. Not really any other resistance than your body weight.

But RFA makes working out fun. It helps you get moving rather than sitting on a couch. Give it a try. 🙂

Keto & Thanksgiving

After doing Keto for 3 months, there was Thanksgiving. So what does one do for Thanksgiving on Keto? In my case eat whatever one wants and take the next day off work. Seriously. I felt like absolute shit yesterday. Slept most of the day.

But you know what? I’d do it again. Just maybe without the cake for desert. I knew it was likely I was going to feel like shit after all the carbs and sugar. But I choose to do it. I’m much better today if a little tired still. But the coffee is still in the mug ;).

A big part of changing my eating and getting healthier for me is not to treat food like it’s the enemy. It does nothing for me to avoid absolutely everything and be miserable. I still want to enjoy the occasional indulgence and yummy thing. Just not all the time.

Exercise part 1 – Yes.Fit

Let’s talk a little about exercise. Now they say diets start in the kitchen but I feel that exercise keeps you going.

I use several methods to get exercise in and increase movement daily. The biggest constant that I favor is Yes.Fit. It’s an app that allows you to travel the world using mapping technology. You can pay for a monthly membership or you can pay for each race individually. If you do a monthly membership race rewards can be added on.

But check out this view! As you do your race you move along the route. Here’s where I ended yesterday at:

Virtual run in Florida

Now it’s your race so you can run it how ever you choose. Some people will only use focused workouts. Some people use daily activity. You can run, walk, swim, row, etc. your way through your race. I tend to favor longer challenges and will use daily activity. For example, I’ll set a goal of competing a 70 mile race in 20 days. This encourages me to get extra movement in every day and keeps me motivated.

Hello there!

August 28th. August 28th marked the day that I recorded my heaviest weight. 295lbs. 70% body fat. 52.3 BMI. I hadn’t worn a pair of jeans comfortably in goodness knows how long. My work allow us to wear yoga pants out of practicality so that’s what I mostly wore. How in the world did I ever get so heavy? Time to fix it.

Did I also mention that this was in the middle of a pandemic? This far into the shut down I had been keeping fairly busy with school and house projects and the like. But I was also honestly running out of things to do. So I guess it made sense to start working on myself. That’s not to say that I wasn’t trying to improve myself. Just the week before I tackled my first virtual 5k.

First 5k ever!

So now it’s been a few months, I’m now down 37lbs and plan on losing quite a bit more. I’ve done several more virtual 5ks and several challenges.

A dear friend of mine suggested I blog about this and hey why not 🙂 so here we go!
